Give the idea a visible form

A concept becomes persuasive through the photographs themselves. Think about how composition, repetition, texture, gesture or the relationship between images develops your idea. A statement can provide context, but it should not have to rescue a disconnected selection.

Your story may be abstract, staged or quietly observational. The useful question is whether its choices feel intentional and whether the sequence invites sustained attention.

Write a short, specific statement

Explain the subject, intention and any process that helps someone understand the work. Use concrete language. A few clear sentences about what you explored will often be more useful than a long list of abstract themes.

If a process materially changes how the images should be understood, describe it accurately and check the call’s medium and eligibility rules. Do not assume that every category of visual art is accepted under photography.

Choose what belongs together

Select images that develop one idea rather than a retrospective of unrelated work. Repetition can be purposeful when it reveals change; otherwise, make room for a photograph that advances the sequence.

Preserve enough detail for the intended presentation. The live call provides the required file specifications and image count. Keep your original files and prepare the requested exports from them.
